Classical sculpture generally refers to the type of sculptures from Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome, as well as the Hellenized and Romanized civilizations under their rule from about 500 BC to around 200 AD.
According to The Beazley Archive, early 5th century Greek classical style artists would consciously try make human and animal forms realistically. This required observation and understanding of the mechanics of anatomy.
